The Lady Justice statue.   Themis the goddess who is represented is the goddess of justice and law.   She holds a sword in one hand and scales in the other. The sword signifies the power that is held by those making the decision and the scales represent the impartiality with which justice is served. During the 16th century, artists started showing the lady blindfolded showing that justice is not subject to influence. Since this time the statue earned the name Blind Justice.
