Known as the Venus de Milo or the Aphrodite of Melos it is one of the better known Greek statues and was discovered on the Greek island of Milos in 1820. Aphrodite, later referred to as Venus by the Romans, was the goddess of love and beauty, born from the silver foam aphros of the sea.
