Thomas J. Jackson is the most revered of all Confederate commanders and we have created this small scale replica of his likeness. A graduate of West Point (1846), he had served in the artillery in the Mexican War, earning two brevets, before resigning to accept a professorship at the Virginia Military Institute. Thought strange by the cadets, he earned Tom Fool Jackson and Old Blue Light as nicknames. He is most famous for his audacious Valley Campaign of 1862 and as a corps commander in the Army of Northern Virginia under General Robert E. Lee. Military historians consider Jackson to be one of the most gifted tactical commanders in United States history. His Valley Campaign and his envelopment of the Union Army are studied worldwide even today as examples of innovative and bold leadership.
