State of Sibyl, detail of the Tomb of the Duke of Savoy, Philibert le Beau Hautecombe Abbey. This was a residence and chapel also belonging to the Duke of Savoy. From the 12th century it was the home of religious communities including orders of monks. It sits on the banks of Lake Bourget, and is the traditional burial place of Savoy princes and of the Kings of Italy, since they are the same family. The abbey contains marble statues and artwork of great intricacy presented by the guided tour, revealing at the same time the rich heritage of the House of Savoy.
