This replica of a female head sculpture by world famous artist Modigliani, has a strong connection with African sculpture and demonstrates Modigliani's fascination with classical African and Etruscan sculptures. The classical caryatids with their balanced direct lining and their modest beauty inspired him. Modigliani did not produce many sculptures, only twenty-five pieces survive, these abstracted, elongated heads had a significant stylistic impact on his subsequent figure and portrait paintings.
